Keys, Locks, and Doors

My life consists of pretty much 4 things, keys, locks, doors, and a whole ton of irony...but don't get discouraged; it is often the last key that opens the lock.
This is my friend, an extra for Pinoy Apparel. LOL

This past Saturday, the 4th, I had the pleasure of spending the day being an extra on a collaboration film project by Oishi Media and Pnoy Apparel.  It was definitely an experience unlike others I have experienced in my life thus far.
For one, I have a greater appreciation for film making.  I’ve dabbled in video editing and the sort, but to see equipment in the $75,000 to $250,000 range alone was an eye opener.  Several takes are needed to provide enough material for seamless cuts in editing, actors have to bring an emotion and genuineness of character to each moment, crew members have to not only have vision, but be able to capture it just so.  It’s pretty incredible.  I also can’t wait to see the finished product.
It’s even better that the purpose this film serves is one that I can back completely.  I don’t know how much we’re allowed to let out, but it’s on a taboo topic that affects our community.
On community, I must say we have a lot of talent in the young Fil-Ams of this generation.  I was in the presence of people with their own followings and the artistry to boot.  Some include, as pictured, Jeff Bernat, Francis Esta, Krystle Cruz, EPonym, Tep, Cas, etc…and of course the brilliant Ruby Ibarra, who invited me to come along.  Thank you for the opportunity Ruby!  And, as always, it’s nice to meet up with someone who just gets the NorCal bit of me hiding in my SoCal shell.  Comforting.  To be honest, I didn’t really know much about these “youtube famous” people, but I did catch some of their tunes later in the day when I got home.  Good stuff.  I was a little bummed that I couldn’t come through to the party doubling as an actual party/location set for the next few scenes in Chula Vista because I’m sure it was a melting pot of harmonious beats, flowing bars and smooth voices.  As well as craziness, fun and shenanigans, as all parties are.  Kitchen, what?  ahhaha It was my mom’s actual day of birth though, so I wasn’t settling when I got the best Greek food in SD (I swear by it!  Dino’s Gyros in Clairemont), nomed on some just made Krispy Kreme donuts and winded down with some Captain America.
The day, shooting wise, for me went from 9:30am to 5:30pm ish.  It was cool to be at CSU San Marcos randomly and I got a chance to meet up with Albert Vo afterward-always good to see my Big!  I was being a little shy the entire day because I hadn’t got much sleep the day before, planning and being present for a surprise birthday party for my mom.  I only really hung around Ruby and her friend Amabel, but it was well worth it.  I should have been a little more outgoing in retrospect but, no biggie.  SO TIRED!  ahhaha.  Regardless, everyone was super nice and welcoming, particularly Zar (sp?) of Pnoy Apparel and one of the Directors, Marvin.  Thanks for the chicken katsu and the parking permit.  You guys rock.  ahhaha.  (:
Forreal though, it’s exciting to see strangers (and non-actors!) come together for something.  This project has been in the works for quite awhile and it’s true what they say when you can’t stop something when the ball is already rolling and the train is on the tracks.  I’m happy to be a part of something positive and worthwhile, even if all I had to do was sit in “class” on a Saturday and pass notes between Ruby Ibarra and Jeff Bernat.  LOL.
Plus, it was fun.  From the “scusi”s to having to pretend to laugh and having it actually come out as a real laugh (the girls’ laugh was way better, boys!  ahah) to cigarette smoke breaks and carrying equipment up and down stairs, or lazily through the elevator LOL.
Great way to spend a Saturday.
Thanks again to Ruby, Pnoy Apparel, Oishi Media and every one else involved.  Check out Pnoy Apparel’s clothing if you haven’t already btw.  Pretty dope.   Actually, just check out everyone involved, you won’t be wasting your time.  Talent talent talent talent errywhere. (:
